Diet features

Treatment of giardiasis is a long process, lasting several weeks and even months. The diet is divided into several stages:

The first stage involves the exclusion of all animal products from the menu. Switching to vegetarian foods will help cleanse the body of harmful substances and reduce the vitality of parasites. It is better to start taking herbal products two weeks before drug treatment.

The main stage of treatment lasts the entire period of taking medications prescribed by the attending physician (from two weeks to a month). Proper nutrition and taking medications rid the body of Giardia during this period. The diet includes a large amount of fiber, which cleanses the intestines. All foods rich in sugar and carbohydrates are prohibited.

The third stage is important for consolidating the result and quickly restoring strength. Its duration is from 1 to 2 months. The diet should consist of plant foods and grains, steamed or cooked in water. Vegetables and fruits are best consumed raw.

When creating a menu for a child with giardiasis, it is important to adhere to the following tips:

  1. Eliminate all foods rich in carbohydrates and glucose. Parasites love them and quickly grow and reproduce in an environment enriched with these substances.
  2. Remove from your diet foods that irritate the intestinal mucosa.
  3. All dishes are steamed or stewed; fried foods are excluded.
  4. The daily menu should include fermented milk products and sour berries and fruits.
  5. Be sure to include foods rich in vitamins and minerals.
  6. Cooking porridges only with water; semolina is excluded from the menu.

The baby should be fed 5-6 times a day in small portions. The diet should be varied so that the child’s body has the strength to recover quickly.

Prohibited and recommended products

When treating giardiasis, it is important to exclude from the child’s menu foods that contribute to the reproduction and growth of parasites. Parents should strictly monitor this and not allow other family members to pamper the child or give him prohibited foods. Patients should not eat:

  • sweets;
  • confectionery and any baked goods;
  • dairy products, with the exception of kefir;
  • carbonated drinks;
  • smoked and pickled products;
  • fried foods;
  • fresh white bread;
  • pasta;
  • mushrooms;
  • chocolate;
  • legumes

Sweet fruits and berries are also excluded from the diet: bananas, grapes, peaches contain large amounts of sucrose, which will be harmful during treatment. Vegetables that can irritate children's intestines are also unacceptable. These include onions, garlic, radishes, horseradish, radishes.

More than half of the foods that a child should eat during the day should be of plant origin. And it is better to eat them raw or boiled. In the menu you need to include:

  • porridge with water from cereals (buckwheat, rice, oatmeal, corn);
  • lean poultry and fish;
  • vegetables;
  • sour fruits and berries;
  • kefir, fermented baked milk, unsalted cheese;
  • greenery;
  • broths from lean meat of the second broth;
  • vegetable broths;
  • compotes, fruit drinks, tomato juice.

When cooking soups, use beef fillet or poultry. This involves removing all skin and fat from the meat. You can give your child a small amount of rye bread or crackers. Biscuits are allowed. Meat and fish are cooked exclusively by steaming, stewing or baking.

The child should drink at least 2 liters of liquid per day. You cannot buy juices and soda from the store. It is better to cook homemade compotes and fruit drinks without adding sugar or make lemonades.

Before drinking, prepared drinks can be slightly acidified with natural lemon juice.

The diet course is repeated even after complete recovery for the purpose of prevention. There are 2-3 courses per year for 1-2 months with breaks. This is necessary to prevent repeated reproduction of parasites if their eggs remain in the body. But usually, if all nutritional rules and doctor’s recommendations are followed, the child does not get sick again.

Menu creation

The child's menu should be varied and tasty, otherwise he will not have the desire to eat healthy food. The main thing is to use your imagination and try to cook food using a variety of recipes.

The menu for each day is divided into five main meals:

  1. The first breakfast should include nutritious foods. Porridge in water with compote or a glass of juice will charge the body with energy. Cookies will sweeten breakfast and make your child happy.
  2. Second breakfast - fruits or berries.
  3. Lunch - you can include in this meal broth or vegetable soup, steamed cutlets, stewed vegetables, fresh salad, fruit drink, lemonade or compote, rye bread and crackers. The first and second courses are being prepared. Baked or fresh fruits are suitable as dessert.
  4. Afternoon snack – kefir, unsweetened low-fat cottage cheese, cookies, baked apple.
  5. Dinner - fish with vegetables in the oven or stewed, steamed vegetables, corn or rice cake, meatballs from lean beef or chicken, fresh vegetables, juice or compote.

Lunch and dinner must include fresh vegetables: they are used in salads or simply added as slices. Many children enjoy gnawing carrots and cucumbers whole. Between main meals there can be snacks of fruits and berries, fresh vegetables, and cookies.

You can make delicious casseroles from fruits and cottage cheese. To prevent them from being too bland, it is better to choose non-acidic varieties. Baked apples have a positive effect on digestion. They can be included in the menu every day and prepared as a dessert.

Diet for giardiasis: menu for adults and children

Giardiasis is a parasitic disease that is caused by the ingestion of protozoa - Giardia. They enter the body along with unwashed vegetables and fruits and dirty water. If there are parasite cysts on household items, and after touching them you do not wash your hands before eating, then infection will occur.

Symptoms of giardiasis

  • Weakness.
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Fast fatiguability.
  • Deterioration of memory and attention.
  • Decreased performance.
  • Flatulence.
  • Abnormal stool (diarrhea).
  • Pain in the stomach area.
  • The occurrence of allergic manifestations.

Giardiasis is dangerous because it can lead to such serious consequences as dysbiosis (intestinal lamblia), disruption of the digestive system, central nervous system, immune system and others.

Treatment of giardiasis

Of course, if symptoms of giardiasis appear, you should immediately consult a doctor. And the basis of treatment here will be a drug against parasites with a broad spectrum of action or, conversely, one that is aimed at a single pathogen. Some begin to self-treat and try to cleanse the body of parasites using folk remedies. But in order to enhance and accelerate the results of drug therapy, you need to follow a special diet.

The purpose of the diet is to create unfavorable conditions for parasites to live in the human body. Therefore, there are a number of foods that need to be excluded from the diet completely, and those that need to be added.

Features of the diet for giardiasis

Products that are not recommended for consumption:

Giardia

  • Sweet and flour products (rolls, baked goods, chocolate, candies, honey, sugar, etc.).
  • Alcohol, carbonated and dairy drinks.
  • Spicy, fatty, smoked, pickled foods.

  • Compotes, juices, fruit juice from sour berries.

Stages of nutrition for giardiasis

The entire period of therapeutic nutrition takes place in 3 stages:

  1. First stage. Its duration is 2 weeks. The main goal is to reduce the level of intoxication in the body and prevent the proliferation of Giardia. The diet should contain the following products: vegetable oil, various cereals with water, vegetables, baked apples, dried fruits.
  2. The second stage will take about 3 weeks. Its goal is to remove parasites from the body. The menu should contain foods high in fiber: apples, pears, vegetables, dried apricots, blueberries.
  3. The third stage is the final one and lasts from 2 to 3 weeks. All his efforts are aimed at creating conditions in which parasites cannot survive, as well as strengthening the body’s defenses. The menu must include fresh fruits and vegetables, various cereals with water and fermented milk products.

Diet for different ages

The menu will be slightly different for children and adults. For an adult, strict adherence to a diet is mandatory. In addition, it is advisable that at least one baked apple is eaten daily. You can cook different porridges, the only condition is that they must be cooked in water.

Baked apples

Example menu for giardiasis, for an adult:

  1. In the morning: oatmeal, 1-2 pieces of cheese, apple juice.
  2. For lunch: chicken soup, stewed zucchini and rice water.
  3. Afternoon snack: baked apple.
  4. For dinner: vegetable stew, rice cake, meatballs (chicken), orange juice.

Tip: the menu is presented as an example; everyone selects products from the allowed list, based on preferences. But it is desirable that they all be involved throughout all three stages of therapeutic nutrition.

Nutrition for children is a little difficult. Often a manifestation of giardiasis can be an allergy. And eating citrus fruits, honey, etc. may make the situation worse. Therefore, the menu for the child can be adjusted. If giardiasis occurs in an infant, he is transferred to artificial feeding.

Children need to choose different recipes every day so that the baby gets all the necessary vitamins

Products for a child can be the same, with the exception of those to which the baby is allergic. And, unfortunately, it is not uncommon in childhood.

Example of a menu for giardiasis in older children:

  1. For breakfast: oatmeal with meat, sour berry compote.
  2. Lunch: broth, baked apple.
  3. Afternoon snack: unsweetened cottage cheese.
  4. For dinner: rice cake, vegetable puree and pear juice.

Advice: be sure to remember hygiene rules during the period of treatment (and not only). This includes washing hands, vegetables, fruits, regularly cleaning your living space, and drinking only boiled water. In addition to adjusting your diet, there are other methods of getting rid of Giardia, for example, collecting herbs to cleanse the body of parasites.

You need to follow such a diet not only until your general condition improves, but until complete recovery. This is possible provided that all treatment rules are followed. If you adhere to them, then already at the first stage of treatment you can feel an improvement in your well-being. And, of course, everything needs to be done under the supervision of a doctor. At the end of treatment, to ensure complete recovery, you need to undergo the necessary tests.

Giardia killer products

There are foods that parasites cannot tolerate very well. By taking them, you cannot completely get rid of the disease, but they help as additional and preventive measures. Giardia die from the following:

Wormwood is prepared in the form of a decoction with other herbs (chamomile, calendula, millennial). Do not collect the inflorescences yourself, as the grass is toxic. It is better to purchase prepared preparations at a pharmacy.

Pumpkin seeds are taken in the morning on an empty stomach and in the evening before bed. The seeds are mixed with a small amount of honey (suitable for evening consumption) or lingonberry juice. Can be taken throughout the day without additives.

Principles of nutrition in childhood

When the examination reveals the presence of Giardia in the body, the doctor prescribes anthelmintic therapy. Getting rid of parasites right away is quite difficult. This will take several months.

But during all this time, parents will need to follow several principles of baby nutrition:

  1. It is necessary to minimize the consumption of carbohydrate foods. Such products create a favorable environment for parasitic infection.
  2. Eliminate from the diet those foods that lead to irritation of the intestinal and stomach mucosa. Giardia has the ability to injure the digestive organs, which leads to inflammatory processes and dysbacteriosis.
  3. Give children more acidic foods. The creation of such an environment leads to the suppression of parasites and their further death. Sour foods should be included in your daily diet. The child should be given dried fruit compotes or berry fruit drinks without added sugar.
  4. Don't forget about fractional meals. Meals should be taken at least five times, and portions should be small. Overeating should be avoided.
  5. Food should be steamed, stewed or boiled. No fried or fatty foods should be present on the table. The addition of salt and spices should be kept to a minimum. Vegetable oil can only be added as a salad dressing.
  6. The diet should be varied. Every day you need to eat vegetables, fruits, cereals, soups, dairy and fermented milk products. Nutrition should be such that it can replenish all lost energy, vitamins and minerals.

A special diet must be followed for twelve weeks. Therefore, responsibilities for proper feeding fall not only on the shoulders of the mother, but also of all relatives.

Grandparents, teachers and educators should be aware of the unique diet.

  1. Steam cutlets. Add the egg and oatmeal to the minced chicken and form into cutlets. Cook for 30-35 minutes in a double boiler.
  2. Baked apples. Take a sour fruit, cut out the middle and sprinkle with cinnamon. You can put a filling of low-fat cottage cheese inside. Bake in the oven until done.
  3. Vegetable stew. Take fresh carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and zucchini. Cut the vegetables into cubes and place in a bowl greased with vegetable oil. You also need to add a small amount of water there. Simmer over low heat until done.
  4. Homemade lemonade. Cut the lemon into slices and place it in boiling water. Add mint and stevia, cook for 2-3 minutes.

Healthy recipes are easy to prepare.

The main rule is not to use products prohibited for giardiasis.

The diet for giardiasis is aimed at creating conditions unfavorable for the proliferation of parasites. A balanced diet strengthens the immune system, increasing the body's resistance to parasitic infections. With giardiasis, many patients complain of diarrhea, abdominal pain, frequent nausea and indigestion. By following a therapeutic diet, the intestinal microflora is restored, due to which the symptoms of parasitic infestation disappear.

Diet menu for giardiasis in children

Like any other helminthic disease, giardiasis in children has dangerous consequences. And at the first suspicion of helminthic infestation, you need to begin complex treatment, which can only be prescribed by a specialist. When prescribing a course of treatment, doctors also give advice on following a certain diet. Since there are food products that contribute to a favorable atmosphere for the development and reproduction of worms. And some products have antiparasitic properties.

Knowing which foods can be consumed and which need to be excluded, you can easily create a menu for your child during the period of treatment for giardiasis. The entire treatment process takes approximately 3-4 months. And you need to be patient and strictly follow the diet prescribed along with the main treatment. Only then the result will be highly effective and will not take long to arrive.

Diet for the treatment of giardiasis in children

As for infants, their diet consists of replacing breast milk with artificial feeding.
If Giardia is detected in the mother, treatment is prescribed for both the child and the mother. After complete recovery, breastfeeding can be resumed. As for the diet for children over one year old, first you need to figure out what the worms are “afraid of” and what creates quite acceptable conditions for them to live. Which foods are certain death for them, and which ones they wouldn’t mind eating.

Giardia worms do not like acidic environments. And a sweet and carbohydrate-rich environment is the most wonderful and conducive to development for them. In this regard, it is necessary to exclude light carbohydrates, sweet and buttery products, and include sweet and sour foods in the menu of children when treating giardiasis.

Foods to be excluded:

  • sweets (sweets, cookies, cakes);
  • rich bakery products (including white bread);
  • pasta;
  • spicy, pickled and smoked products;
  • sausages;
  • raw onions and garlic, radish and horseradish;
  • very sweet fruits and berries (sweet grapes, bananas, melon);
  • mushrooms;
  • milk;
  • carbonated drinks.

Foods that need to be included in the diet:

  • sour and sweet and sour berries and fruits (kiwi, citrus fruits, sour apples);
  • raw and stewed vegetables (especially carrots and zucchini);
  • porridge cooked in water;
  • fermented milk products (kefir, low-fat cottage cheese).

It is necessary to take into account such a fact as allergic reactions in children to a particular product (especially for fruits and berries). If such a reaction exists, then this product should be completely excluded from the child’s diet. All components are selected by parents strictly on an individual basis or after consultation with a doctor.

The diet for giardiasis involves feeding the child 4-5 times a day in small portions. It is advisable to drink some sour drink (berry juice) 20-30 minutes before meals. Dishes should only be stewed, steamed or boiled. Frying is completely excluded with this diet. Berries and fruits can be consumed fresh or as compotes and fruit drinks. The berry and fruit menu should be increased several times compared to the usual.

Menu for lyabliosis in children

When compiling a dietary menu, you should adhere to certain rules regarding the methods of preparing certain dishes. Here are some of them:

  1. . Use only fresh, no canned options. You can bake it by adding a small amount of low-fat cottage cheese. Sweetness can be added using a sweetener or stevia (but not in large quantities).
  2. Vegetables should only be consumed raw, stewed or steamed. It is recommended not to overuse potatoes. Onions, garlic and legumes are completely excluded.
  3. Cereals. Cooking any porridge only with water. It is recommended to exclude semolina and all legumes. Especially for giardiasis, rice porridge is recommended, but you can also use others that the child loves. These are corn, buckwheat, oatmeal, barley and other porridges.
  4. Only lean meat (chicken, turkey, veal, lean pieces of beef or pork). A very important condition when preparing meat products is finely cutting the meat or running it through a meat grinder. It is better if these are cutlets, meatballs or steamed meatballs. It is necessary to ensure that the meat has undergone sufficient heat treatment.
  5. First meal. Broths for soups are prepared only from chicken (or other poultry) without skin and fat. Rich and fatty broths are strictly prohibited!
  6. It is better to use rye and not the freshest. You can cook crackers in the oven.
  7. From fermented milk products, you can eat low-fat cottage cheese, kefir, low-fat fermented baked milk and low-fat or low-fat yogurt.

You should also consider the amount of liquid your child drinks per day. It should be from one and a half to two liters. These can be fruit drinks made from cranberries, currants or lingonberries, as well as acidified compotes. Acidobiffirin and Bifilumbacterin can be added to fermented milk drinks. Just drink them freshly prepared. They help restore intestinal microflora.

Don't forget about hygiene! Both your child’s and your hands should always be clean, since you are cooking. All products used in the diet must be fresh, well washed and well heat treated.

Recipes for some dishes

The menu for giardiasis allows you to take a fresh look at preparing familiar dishes. Here are a few recipes with which you can prepare very healthy and necessary dishes for treatment.

  • . We take zucchini, carrots, 1-2 potatoes, tomato and bell pepper. Cut everything into slices or cubes. Place the potatoes on the bottom of the pan and add a couple of drops of vegetable oil and enough water to simmer. After 10-15 minutes, add the rest of the vegetables and simmer until tender. You can sprinkle with herbs before use.
  • Porridge. When preparing porridge (only with water), you can use a little butter. You can add berries and stevia to some types of cereals (oatmeal, rice). This will at least slightly diversify the usual taste of porridge.
  • Berry juice. Throw any crushed berries and a little stevia into boiling water. Stir, turn off the stove and let it brew for a while. Drink chilled!
  • Still lemonade. Add a bunch of mint and lemon (cut into slices) to boiling water (5 liters) and boil for 2-3 minutes. For sweetness, add stevia.
  • Oven cutlets. Mix low-fat minced meat, egg and a little sautéed onion. You can add oatmeal instead of bread crumb. Form cutlets and place on a baking sheet. Cook in the oven until done. The same recipe is also suitable for cooking in a double boiler.
  • Baked apples with cottage cheese. Core the apples and fill with low-fat cottage cheese with stevia. You can add cinnamon if your child likes it. Bake in the oven until done.

Stevia is a natural sugar substitute. But if it is very difficult for your child to do without sweets, then consult a specialist. Perhaps at some stages of treatment he will allow the addition of a small amount of regular sugar.

In general, the menu compiled for giardiasis in a child is not very diverse, but quite acceptable. The main thing here is to think about a speedy recovery and the complete restoration of intestinal microflora with the help of diet. Good luck with your treatment!

Basic principles of nutrition for giardiasis

Giardia parasitizes primarily in the small intestine. They release toxins that are absorbed into the general bloodstream. Because of this, a person experiences:

  • allergic reactions;
  • toxic poisoning;
  • disruptions in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • intestinal dysbiosis;
  • immunodeficiency states.

The dietary program must be balanced. The diet is aimed at reducing the number of parasites in the intestines, healing the gastrointestinal mucosa, normalizing stool and microflora. If you follow a diet, recovery occurs faster, and the risks of exacerbation of giardiasis are also reduced.

  • The amount of carbohydrates in the diet is limited as much as possible. They are a breeding ground for Giardia and stimulate the reproduction of protozoa.
  • Vegetables for giardiasis only need to be boiled (it is not advisable to eat raw vegetables). As a result of heat treatment, they destroy components that irritate the damaged intestinal mucosa.
  • Meat and fish dishes are steamed or boiled. They are more easily absorbed by the intestines and do not cause constipation.
  • Those suffering from giardiasis should get into the habit of eating portioned meals up to 5 times a day. The gentle regime reduces the load on the stomach, intestines, liver and kidneys.

What can you eat with giardiasis: table

The exclusion of simple carbohydrates is the main condition of the diet for giardiasis. The menu includes as much as possible:

  • proteins - accelerate the regeneration of the gastrointestinal mucosa, stimulate metabolism and immunity;
  • liquid – neutralizes Giardia toxins, reduces the severity of allergic reactions, softens stool.

The diet for Giardia is designed so that the food consumed destroys the protozoa and accelerates the healing of the injured intestine. Treatment table No. 4 is used as a basis. The diet involves avoiding fatty and carbohydrate foods along with increasing the amount of fiber and protein in the diet.

Allowed products for giardiasis

With giardiasis, the diet includes foods that create an acidic environment in the gastrointestinal tract. It negatively affects protozoa, prevents their reproduction and penetration into the mucous membrane of the small intestine.

The diet is based on vegetables and fruits, soups with low-fat broth, cereal porridges, and dried fruits. Vegetable casseroles and low-fat cottage cheese are allowed in moderation. Black tea is abandoned in favor of a herbal decoction of chamomile flowers or rose hips. In the intervals between main meals, eat fresh vegetables and fruits, which form a slightly acidic environment in the gastrointestinal tract.

What can a diet cure for lamblia?

When infected with Giardia, a diet is always prescribed, and this is not accidental. The fact is that this parasitic form of microorganisms populates the small intestine, in which the most active breakdown and absorption of nutrients and elements occurs. Whether a child or an adult, a Giardia carrier always feels an acute lack of compounds necessary to maintain body functions.

The first important task of the diet for giardiasis is to compensate for the deficiency of these important elements. It is virtually impossible to do this by increasing the amount of food - with Giardia in adults and children, digestive disorders are observed, in which an increase in the amount of food can cause an exacerbation of symptoms. There is only one way out - to increase the nutritional value of dishes, but to use foods that are as easy to digest as possible.

Scientists also found that Giardia prefer to live and reproduce in an alkaline environment. That is why nutrition for this disease is designed, first of all, to increase the concentration of acids released into the intestinal lumen. This can be accomplished only by competent selection of products and methods of their preparation.

Proper nutrition allows you to restore intestinal function after illness

Also, a diet in the treatment of giardiasis helps eliminate the consequences resulting from the activity of the microorganism. To restore the villous epithelium, mucous and submucosal layer of the small intestine, and reduce the negative impact on injured tissues, it is necessary to correctly create a menu and build a patient’s diet.

How and what is best for a patient to eat is usually told by the attending physician to whom he turned for help. Also, a diet for Giardia can be prepared by a nutritionist.

What not to eat: prohibited and partially restricted foods

Nutrition for giardiasis should be gentle. Semi-finished products, rich meat broths, and pickled vegetables are excluded from the menu. Many patients are interested in whether it is possible to eat eggs with giardiasis. The list of healthy products includes only chicken eggs. It is undesirable to consume more than 2 eggs per day, as they cause constipation.

It is recommended to replace sweet drinks with fruit drinks, compotes or juices from sour vegetables and fruits. Easily digestible carbohydrates are not allowed on the menu - yeast dough, confectionery, honey and sugar. If you follow the menu rules, the amount of Giardia in the intestines decreases, which leads to recovery.

Prohibited foods for giardiasis

For giardiasis, it is advisable to replace sugar with sorbitol and bread with biscuits.

Eating foods in small portions improves digestion and reduces the load on the injured intestines. The only fresh juice recommended is lemon juice. But if giardiasis is complicated by enteritis, colitis or gastritis, it is used with caution and only as prescribed by a gastroenterologist.

As part of the diet, products with dyes, flavors and preservatives are excluded from the menu. During treatment for giardiasis, smoked meat is abandoned in favor of boiled veal, chicken and rabbit.

Treatment menu for 7 days

The diet menu for giardiasis in children and adults depends on the form of the disease:

  • If the protozoa exclusively affects the intestines, follow table No. 4.
  • In case of toxic-allergic syndrome, they are limited to products with a low degree of allergenicity.
  • If giardiasis is complicated by cholecystitis, follow diet No. 5 according to Pevzner.

The menu for the week is made up of permitted and partially restricted products. They are subjected to almost all types of heat treatment, except frying.

Monday

Patients with giardiasis need to eat often, but in small portions. The menu for the first day of the diet looks something like this:

  • first breakfast - oatmeal in water with a small amount of butter, rosehip decoction;
  • second breakfast – low-fat cottage cheese, fruit drink;
  • lunch - vegetable soup, steamed cutlets, sliced vegetables, jelly;
  • afternoon snack – oatmeal cookies, compote;
  • dinner - zucchini stew, boiled chicken fillet, yogurt.

To reduce the load on the intestines, eat dinner at least 1.5 hours before bedtime.

Tuesday

The nutrition program for giardiasis is based on the consumption of cereal porridges. They are boiled in milk diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio. The diet menu for Tuesday may consist of the following dishes:

  • first breakfast – buckwheat with milk, biscuits, juice;
  • second breakfast – cottage cheese casserole, berry juice;
  • lunch - beetroot soup, boiled turkey, oatmeal bread, compote;
  • afternoon snack – baked apple, chamomile infusion;
  • dinner - vegetable stew, baked pike perch, herbal tea.
