What can you eat during exacerbation of gastritis: allowed dishes and sample menu

How to eat during exacerbation of gastritis

The general rules of nutrition during the development of inflammation of the gastric mucosa are approximately the same for all types of disease. Food should not overload the stomach. It is necessary that it be easily digestible and quickly digested.

To do this, food during exacerbation of gastritis should be warm and preferably ground. Large pieces of food are not allowed. Difficult to digest foods (nuts, seeds, chocolate) are also limited.

The use of salt and seasonings should be minimized. They irritate the gastric mucosa. The consumption of fats is limited; all food is either boiled or cooked in a double boiler.

You can often hear the question - what can you eat during an exacerbation of gastritis in its very initial stage? Nothing is possible. The first two to three days of the disease are the most difficult, so you need to reduce the load on the stomach as much as possible. On the first day, the patient is only allowed to drink. This could be iced tea or still mineral water. It is better if it is special water intended for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (for example, Essentuki).

On the second day, they begin to introduce liquid or highly ground food - jelly, boiled porridge, vegetable puree. The product range is being expanded gradually and very carefully. If after eating some food the pain begins to intensify, then it is excluded from the diet.

Diet for exacerbation of gastritis

When the first signs of an acute inflammatory process in the stomach appear, therapeutic diet No. 1 is prescribed. It is considered quite tough and is intended to restore the functioning of the digestive tract. All food should be either boiled or steamed. Baking in the oven is allowed, but without forming crusts. The amount of salt consumed is strictly limited.

A fractional diet is recommended. It is advisable to eat 5 times a day in small portions. At the same time, the calorie content of food per day should not exceed 3000-3500 calories. Mushroom and fish broths, rich complex soups (borscht, solyanka, kharcho) are excluded. The consumption of home-canned food, salted fish, and smoked meats is not allowed.

Features of proper nutrition

Diet during exacerbation of gastritis should be based on strict rules. Only adherence to a diet helps to get rid of unpleasant symptoms and treat acute forms of stomach disease. The main features of the diet for gastritis in the acute stage are:

  • fractional meals - small portions (200–300 grams);
  • the last meal is taken no later than a few hours before going to bed at night;
  • drink a glass of water on an empty stomach;
  • consumption of boiled and steamed foods;
  • not too hot or cold food;
  • food must be thoroughly chopped or ground;
  • exclusion of spicy, fatty, smoked, salty foods;
  • prohibition of alcoholic, sweet, carbonated drinks;
  • inclusion in the diet containing fiber.

During the first day of exacerbation of gastritis, it is recommended to stop eating and drink plenty of fluids. Preference should be given to tea, compote, herbal decoctions and infusions. You need to follow the diet for several weeks, gradually introducing regular foods. During exacerbation of hyperacid gastritis, physical activity is contraindicated.

Nutrition during exacerbation of atrophic gastritis

Atrophic gastritis is considered perhaps the most insidious form of the disease. It develops gradually, the only symptom may be unpleasant belching after eating. An exacerbation always occurs acutely, against the background of general well-being, and is accompanied by pronounced symptoms.

The diet for exacerbation of atrophic gastritis is very strict. The basic principles of nutrition are the same as for exacerbation of classic gastritis. But any baked goods, raw vegetables and fruits, milk and dairy products are additionally prohibited.

Everything must be cooked either steamed or boiled. The basis of the diet consists of pureed soups, boiled porridge in water, boiled lean meat, crackers and jelly.

Gastritis with low acidity

This is the second extreme, which is characterized by insufficient processing of foods that enter the stomach with juice. As a result, they cannot be fully absorbed in the intestines, fermentation occurs, which is accompanied by unpleasant symptoms. What would be the diet for gastritis in the acute stage in this case? Table 1 is the strictest diet, which involves two days of drinking, and then exclusively liquid, pureed food. In this case, you can skip it and go straight to diet No. 16.

Bread can be eaten slightly dried, but put off donuts and baked goods until better times. Buckwheat, oatmeal and rice are preferable among cereals. Meat is acceptable, but the leanest are veal and chicken. Homemade milk, cottage cheese, butter are products that you need to avoid. Choose skim milk and use butter only occasionally.

What else should be included in the daily menu? The diet for gastritis in the acute stage allows you to consume broths from vegetables, meat and fish. When the condition returns to normal, you can eat the vegetables themselves from the soup. This shows a clear advantage for those who suffer from gastritis with low acidity. About a month after the exacerbation, you will be able to eat rich soups and pickled cucumbers, herring and even fried foods. Do not be ill!

What not to eat during exacerbation of gastritis

To maintain the functional capacity of the gastrointestinal tract, during inflammatory processes in the gastric mucosa, the following traumatic factors should be avoided.

  1. Chemical . Foods that stimulate gastric secretion are removed from the diet. These are alcohol, citrus fruits, coffee, carbonated drinks. Seasonings are completely excluded.
  2. Mechanical . Coarse fiber is excluded (white cabbage, black bread, stringy meat).
  3. Thermal . Eating very hot food is not allowed. It can further injure the already damaged mucous membrane.

There are a number of foods that cause increased formation of gastric juice. Therefore, they should not be eaten during exacerbation of gastritis. These include fatty meats, hard-boiled eggs, home-canned food, and fresh bread. The fat content is reduced, as they are poorly broken down and retained in the stomach.

It must be remembered that all food eaten affects the functioning of the stomach. Therefore, during an exacerbation of gastritis, it should not be too dense and fried. It is best to use the principle of separate power supply. Proteins, when mixed with carbohydrates, are less digestible. This can cause a functional disorder of the stomach.

What to eat during exacerbation of gastritis

So, what can you eat during an exacerbation of gastritis? Dairy products (cottage cheese, fermented baked milk), any type of vegetable puree, low-fat soups, boiled fish. You can drink non-carbonated mineral water and weak tea.

Gastritis can occur with both an increase and a decrease in acidity. Each of these forms has its own dietary features.

Let's consider what is possible during exacerbation of gastritis with each variant of the course of the disease.

Type of productsGastritis with increased acidityGastritis with decreased acidity
SoupsVegetables, dairyVegetables, in low-fat meat broth
FlourDried bread, baked sweet piesCrackers
MeatRabbit, chicken (boiled only)Veal, chicken, minced meat (can be steamed and baked)
FishRiver perch, pike, bream, pike perchPollock, cod, hake
PorridgeSemolina, oatmeal, milletBuckwheat, rice, pearl barley
DairyMilk, sour creamKefir, low-fat cottage cheese, cheese
BeveragesTea, rosehip decoctionTea, juice, dried fruit compotes

From the table above you can understand that during an exacerbation of gastritis, accompanied by a decrease in acidity, you can eat more variedly. This is due to the fact that when the pH of hydrochloric acid is elevated, eating foods that stimulate its production leads to additional irritation of the gastric mucosa. Therefore, in this case, the diet is selected more carefully.

Authorized Products

Nutrition during exacerbation of gastritis of the stomach is organized within Tables No. 1A and 1B , replacing each other. They differ in the degree of processing of products. Table No. 1A contains slimy soups and pureed cereals; it lacks any vegetables and bread. Diet No. 1B includes pureed soups, homogenized canned vegetables and fruits. The rest of the list of products is the same.

Nutrition according to Diet No. 1A is prescribed for severe exacerbation and for a short time. More often, a more expanded and less gentle Table No. 1B , containing 100 g of proteins and fats, 300 g of carbohydrates. It includes:

  • Puree soups made from oatmeal, semolina, rice or buckwheat, boiled in vegetable broth. Soups are prepared with vegetables and pureed. The best option is to use puree soups, to which rolled boiled meat is added. To improve the taste, cream, butter, and egg mixture are added to ordinary soups.
  • Dried wheat bread and crackers.
  • Lean meat and poultry. Steamed minced meat dishes are prepared from beef, lamb, chicken, turkey and pork. These can be cutlets, meatballs, souffles, zrazy, quenelles.
  • Fish dishes (pike, hake, pollock, ice) in the form of cutlets, mashed potatoes, meatballs. The patient is given meat and fish dishes twice a day.
  • Porridge: buckwheat, oatmeal, semolina or rice. The cereals are well boiled, rubbed and oil is added.
  • Canned vegetables and fruits intended for baby food.
  • Milk, non-sour cottage cheese (mashed with milk), cottage cheese soufflé.
  • Eggs (2 pieces per day), which are cooked soft-boiled or scrambled.
  • Butter and vegetable oil, which are added to dishes.
  • Berries in the form of jelly, mousse, jellies, baked and stewed apples. They can be served with honey or sugar.
  • 1.5 liters of liquid: filtered water, diluted juices, bran decoction, tea with milk, carrot and pumpkin juice, rosehip infusion.

Sample menu for gastritis

This is what a sample menu looks like during the stage of exacerbation of inflammation of the gastric mucosa.

  • Breakfast - porridge (semolina or oatmeal), tea with sweet crackers.
  • Snack – tea with low-fat cookies.
  • Lunch – soup, crackers instead of bread. For the second course - mashed potatoes and a piece of boiled fish. Compote. For an afternoon snack - oatmeal jelly. And for dinner - steamed beef cutlets, millet porridge.

Due to the fact that during an exacerbation of gastritis, not all foods can be eaten and their list is quite limited, when creating a menu for the week, you may encounter certain difficulties. Therefore, it is recommended to alternate the diet by day of the week, periodically repeating the same sets of dishes.

Let's give an example of what a sample menu for the next seven days might look like.

On Monday , Wednesday and Saturday, it is recommended to prepare liquid semolina porridge and compote for breakfast. For a snack (at about 1100) cottage cheese casserole with apples. For lunch, it is advisable to have soup in low-fat chicken broth with croutons, boiled rice and steamed chicken cutlets. You can wash everything down with slightly sweet tea.

Afternoon snacks should be as light as possible. Therefore, jelly is an ideal option. It can be made from fruit, but oatmeal jelly is considered the most beneficial for the stomach. For dinner there can be pasta and meatballs baked in the oven. In the evening it is better to drink mineral water. This helps ease the work of the stomach during sleep.

On Tuesday , Thursday and Sunday, it is better to eat oatmeal for breakfast and wash it down with unsweetened tea. For a snack – steamed cheesecakes with sour cream. For lunch these days they prepare vegetable soup, mashed potatoes and veal cutlets (baked in the oven). Wash everything down with non-carbonated mineral water.

For an afternoon snack, you can treat yourself to oven-baked pears. And for dinner, eat a piece of boiled sea fish and wash it all down with rosehip decoction. This is a multivitamin drink that strengthens and restores the body's protective properties.

For gastritis outside the acute stage, it is advisable to do a fasting day (for example, kefir day) one day a week. But if the disease worsens, this can only worsen the situation, since the hydrochloric acid produced will irritate the inflamed gastric mucosa.

Therefore, on Friday for breakfast you can eat millet porridge with baked apples and wash it all down with unsweetened tea. For a snack, it is recommended to choose jelly, and for lunch - veal soup, fish baked with vegetables. It’s better to wash everything down with dried fruit compote. Dinner may consist of vegetable stew and mineral water.

Compliance with the rules of such nutrition will allow you to restore the functioning of the entire digestive tract in the shortest possible time.

In addition to the set of products, you need to remember how to eat correctly. All food should be chewed thoroughly; swallowing large pieces causes the stomach to take much longer to digest.

Therefore, you need to eat slowly, in a calm environment. Without being distracted by TV or a book. Under no circumstances should you overeat. This can also lead to disruption of the digestive tract.

During exacerbation of gastritis, the diet should not be selected independently, but in consultation with the attending physician. First, the form of gastritis is determined. For this, the necessary tests and examinations are carried out.

After receiving all the results, the doctor draws appropriate conclusions and prescribes treatment. At the same time, the type of diet is specified. Selecting the right menu yourself without determining the type of disease is strictly contraindicated.

If, with gastritis occurring with increased acidity, you consume foods that increase the production of gastric juice, you can significantly aggravate your condition. Conversely, a very gentle diet for inflammation of the gastric mucosa with low acidity can disrupt its functioning. Therefore, only the attending physician decides what you can eat during an exacerbation of gastritis!

Menu (Power Mode)

Of course, nutrition during exacerbation of gastritis is very limited, but this is temporary. After 2-3 weeks, the patient can be transferred to Table No. 1 , which is expanded by introducing vegetables and some cereals, as well as an additional method of processing food - baking is allowed. But even with this therapeutic diet, the choice of meat and fish dishes is quite wide. You can make cutlets, souffles, zrazy, pates, quenelles and simply rolled meat.

Nutrition during the recovery period after exacerbation of gastritis

A therapeutic diet for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract is not only a change in diet during an exacerbation. This is also nutritional support after entering the remission stage and prevention of subsequent relapses of the disease.

After the exacerbation stage is completed, the diet is gradually expanded and new products are introduced. But this must be done as carefully as possible; when dyspeptic disorders appear, they return to a more strict version of the diet.

Food is also better prepared by steaming, boiling or baking. It is better to minimize the consumption of fried foods. Condiments are not allowed. It is better to replace regular salt with sea salt. Carbonated drinks and coffee are prohibited. They irritate the gastric mucosa.

It is better to eat fractionally, in small portions. This will make it easier for the stomach to process incoming food.

Following these simple rules will help avoid frequent recurrences of exacerbations of gastrointestinal diseases.

Reflux gastritis

There are quite a lot of gastritis in medical practice, and each of them has its own characteristics. This form is characterized by the fact that, for a number of reasons, normal gastrointestinal motility is disrupted. As a result, partial reflux of food from the intestines back into the stomach occurs. This causes belching, heartburn and inflammation of its walls. Diet for reflux gastritis in the acute stage is the most important therapeutic factor.

It is necessary to abandon solid food components and switch to a diet consisting of pureed soups. A sample daily menu looks like this:

  • Start your day with liquid oatmeal with dried fruits.
  • Second breakfast – bread with cheese.
  • Lunch - pureed soup.
  • Afternoon snack - baked apple and biscuits.
  • Dinner - 100 g of boiled chicken fillet and a portion of porridge. Viscous rolled oats are best.
